Mixed-media performance for Lunchtime Concert

Innovative pianist and composer Ashley Hribar will present his unique musical stylings that combine multimedia, world music, cross-disciplinary arts and a range of traditional music genres for a Flinders Lunchtime Concert on 26 September.

Ashley describes his compositions as “poly-stylistic collages” that blend a variety of techniques, voices, instruments and objects in bold improvisations. This has taken shape in his ‘live’ improvisations to the classic silent films Sherlock Jnr and Hamlet, while more recent works include Walkabout and A Night in the Outback (both for piano and didgeridoo), and the soundtrack to Richard III, commissioned by Silents Now (UK).

His solo piano works Paganini Variations, ‘ash’ Fantasie plus a cadenza and arrangement for Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue appear on his album Piano Rhapsody and he composed and performed the music for Be>y Re>et die Volksbühne (Die Volksbühne, Berlin) in collaboration with actress Bettina Lamprecht. His solo album for The Wizard Tone Records Improvisation Series was nominated for the South Australian Arts Awards in 2017.
