Vote for better sport parenting

Dr Sam Elliott has entered the Universities Australia ‘Pitch it clever 2019’ video competition on his research advocating for a new approach to parenting in sport. The video has been uploaded and staff are welcome to take a look – and consider casting a vote.

Pitch it clever is an annual competition presented by Universities Australia that aims to encourage early career researchers to communicate their research, including why it matters to the community. The challenge is to create a compelling 120 second video on a research topic to a non-expert audience.

Dr Elliott’s video, The sport parent project, proposes a new education and support approach backed by research, to arrest the risks posed by parents to children’s enjoyment and motivation in sport.

He says this will help maximise participation in sport and ultimately assist in reducing the economic burden of physical inactivity in Australia, which is an estimated $555M per year.

Dr Elliott’s video has received many votes already, but competition is high and any support is appreciated. View the two-minute submission: The sport parent project.
