Language rivalry strikes Vic Square

Flinders University will host The Australian Computational and Linguistics Olympiad (OzCLO) nationals for high-school students, at Victoria Square campus on 27 March 2019.

OzCLO aims to develop greater awareness of linguistics including computational linguistics among high school students, and encourage interest in these areas, potentially leading to more students progressing these disciplines at a tertiary level.

The competition introduces students to language puzzles so they can develop problem-solving strategies and learn about the structures and diversity of the world’s languages.

Four teams of South Australian high school students from Immanuel College and Seaview High School have made it to the second round and will compete in the national round. The winners of the national round will be offered the opportunity to represent Australia at the 17th International Linguistics Olympiad, which will be held over 29 July to 2 August 2019 in Yongin, South Korea.
