Spring boost for garden infrastructure

The ‘Grow, Eat, Learn’ market garden located north of McHughs behind the Physical Sciences Building will soon be enhanced as part of Flinders’ Sustainability Plan.

Improvements include tiers and raised garden beds to be planted with fresh produce.  A new irrigation system and a shade structure will be installed, and a formal path will be created so the University community is better able to enjoy the space.

Sustainable materials have been carefully selected for the work, including construction of the shade structure from reclaimed and recycled timbers and installation of a water-butt to catch rainwater from the roof. All weed protection is made from coconut fibres.

Colour will be injected into the space through a bright mural on the shipping container garden storage shed.

Some local noise and dust can be expected over the coming weeks while works are undertaken, and staff are asked to please observe any access changes in the area while workers are on site.

Thank you for your patience while this social and sustainable space is developed for students and staff.
