Enjoy nature, with care

As the weather warms and critters flock to the trees for shade and the paths for sun, staff are reminded to stay snake-safe and consider completing the University’s quick online snake awareness course.

Our community is fortunate to enjoy a beautiful campus with natural surroundings including regular sightings of koalas and kookaburras, together with the occasional snake.

As snakes move through their habitat to access water and food, its important to stay on designated walkways and not venture into surrounding bushland.

Staff are reminded that snakes should not be approached, and to call security on 8201 2880 if one is seen moving towards a building, or lying across a footpath.

Flinders’ interactive snake awareness course was developed in partnership with local organisations Living with Wildlife and Adelaide Snake Catcher. The 20-minute training program is designed to improve understanding of snakes, where they may be seen and what to do if encountered.

To enrol in the course please register via the Flinders University staff development webpage – and stay snake-safe this season.
