Optus small cell consultation

Feedback is sought on rooftop cells proposed at Bedford Park.

Kordia, on behalf of Optus, proposes to install the small cells on the rooftops of buildings at Flinders’ Bedford Park campus and is seeking feedback as part of the consultation process.

The proposed locations are:

  • Biology Discovery Centre
  • the south west and north east corners of the Law & Commerce building
  • Engineering
  • PFD Operations and Maintenance

A small cell is a low-powered base station designed to provide mobile phone coverage to an area of 100 – 400 metres. Optus proposes these small cells will improve and maintain local mobile network services including voice calling, SMS, video calling, video based content services and internet browsing across some of the University’s North and South Ridge areas.

As part of this proposal, consultation is required under the Mobile Phone Base Station Deployment Code 2018.
