Think safety to think safely

Having a safe place to work and study means hazards need to be identified, which requires support from the whole University community. Staff are reminded they can access a short online course that steps through the risk assessment process.

It’s important to assess risks that may arise from hazards and then take action to eliminate or minimise them by having adequate controls in place.

Safety should be front of mind in all areas, and hazards and risks documented as part of a risk assessment. However completing these can seem confusing, which is why the Work Health and Safety Unit has put together a short online FLO course that goes through the basics of risk management, together with a short case study that takes participants through the risk assessment form and process.

Access to the training can be found via the following link:https://www.flinders.edu.au/staffdev/index.php/course/HCB.

The University has a number of Risk Assessment templates to assist.
