Get Festive at Flinders on Saturday

Flinders University’s first ‘Festive at Flinders’ on Saturday will bring fun, vibrant energy and free entertainment to Bedford Park.

Flinders’ main campus will come alive from 3pm-9pm, Saturday 14 December with a range of free performances for young and old, a movie family favourite The Grinch on our Plaza super screen, and a Christmas Market – all promising plenty of festive cheer for the whole family.

Kiddies will get into the swing of things dancing to much loved tunes by Peter Combe, while parents can check out plenty of variety at the Christmas market, browsing wares by local producers and artisans,  just perfect for last minute gifts.

Also on the program is silky smooth voiced cabaret star Ali McGregor who will ensure everyone is entertained with a jumpin’ jazz show that’s in hot demand on the international circuit.

Other free acts include the irrepressible energy of samba band Jambu Loco in collaboration with Sambatuka and dazzling Brazilian dancers Las Chicas Bomba, the uplifting Tutti Choir, and Indigenous dancers.

Ali McGregor’s JAZZAMATAZZ!

Award-winning cabaret performer, Ali McGregor, started her career as a principal soprano with Opera Australia then ran away with the circus in the form of hit show La Clique (La Soiree). She is now one of the most in-demand performers on the international festival circuit, and with songs like ‘Who let the dogs out?’ & ‘Single Ladies’ everybody will be ‘Shufflin’ to the be-bop beats & hep-cat treats.

Peter Combe

For more than 30 years Peter Combe has captured the imagination of Australians young and old. With three ARIAS for Best Children’s Album and seven gold and two platinum CDs, Peter Combe is an icon of Australian children’s music. Did you know Mr Clicketty Cane (Wash Your Face in Orange Juice) has had over 3 million Facebook viewings?

Jambu Loco

It’s uplifting, high-energy, heady, seductive and addictive samba. Adelaide’s premier samba band, Jambu Loco is bringing the sound of the world famous Brazilian festival to Flinders. Come and enjoy the spectacular exhibition of Brazilian culture in collaboration with Sambatuka and dazzling samba dancers from Las Chicas Bomba.

Tutti Arts Choir

Founded by Tutti Artistic Director Pat Rix in 1997, the inspiring Tutti Choir includes disabled and non-disabled singers of many ages and is currently led by Carol Young. The Tutti Choir regularly performs in Adelaide, around South Australia and interstate. Some members have also performed in Vancouver and Minneapolis, and mentored other inclusive choirs.

Christmas Market

Open throughout the evening, the Christmas Market features local producers and artisans selling their wares, including: Bel Short Art, Caitlin Lidae, Emily Johns Art, Fruzsi Kenez Visual Artist, Made with Love By Mel, Ostentatious Designs Jewellery, Shaker & Co Designs, Soy Nice Soy Candles and Sunflower Handmade.
