Supporting our Ally Network

A seminar on 13 February will answer questions and explain what it means to be an Ally with the Ally Network. Staff and students interested in finding out more about the  network, or perhaps joining themselves to help ensure Flinders is an inclusive campus for LGBTIQ+ people, are welcome to attend.

Allies are not experts on matters of sexuality or gender identity, rather they are simply staff or students who strongly support making the University a place where all staff and students can work and study free of harassment or discrimination.

Andrew Georgiou from Pride in Diversity will visit Flinders to conduct the Ally Training session on Thursday 13 February, from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

The session will deliver an understanding of the Ally Network and the role Allies play in influencing cultural change within our organisation.  Topics will include:

  • the fluidity of terminology
  • unique challenges faced by LGBTIQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender, Intersex and Queer) people
  • the impact an inclusive culture has on the lived experiences of LGBTIQ identifying people
  • the role of Allies through identity development

The Flinders University Ally Network is for both staff and students and anyone is welcome to attend the training session.
