Congratulations councillor Gautier

Flinders University council member and alumnus Douglas Gautier AM has been appointed to the board of the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations, which was established this year to deepen Australia’s cooperation with China.

The National Foundation for Australia-China Relations has replaced the Australia-China Council as a high-profile platform for promoting our nation’s ties with China. It’s charged with expanding the scope of the council from education, culture and the arts, to projects that also embrace agriculture, infrastructure, health, the environment and energy.

Mr Gautier’s pre-eminent understanding of the cultural and artistic connections between Australia and China combined with his deep knowledge of education and the value of teaching and research, place him perfectly to contribute meaningfully to this important new body.

Among his many achievements, Mr Gautier established the OzAsia Festival in 2007 as CEO and Artistic Director of the Adelaide Festival Centre, a position he currently holds. This event has since grown into Australia’s leading contemporary arts festival engaging with Asia, attracting audiences of up to 200,000 each year. His previous roles include Director of the Hong Kong Arts Festival and he remains very active in fostering Asian-Australian cultural engagement.

Mr Gautier featured in the Flinders 50 Creatives publication, issued to celebrate the University’s 50th birthday in 2016.

The Flinders University community congratulates Mr Gautier on his new appointment and looks forward to hearing about the projects to arise from the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations.
