Small dances for small screens

Australian Dance Theatre (ADT) dancers working from home were challenged to create short films in isolation, in partnership with Flinders University. These works are now complete and scheduled to be screened for free public viewing over coming weeks.

Dancers were keen to work and use their creativity as they adapted to COVID-19 restrictions, which included the closure of the ADT’s home, the Odeon Theatre.

Working in partnership with Flinders University’s College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, the dancers were guided by film production honours student Alice Reardon, under the mentorship of film lecturer Dr Tom Young, to create smart phone films.

The dancers created eight short videos over five weeks.

This time of isolation has allowed the dancers to learn the process of film making from concept, treatment and storyboard through to filming and editing.

ADT partnered with Music SA to use music from local Adelaide artists for this project.

Sign up to ADAPT – the ADT’s 2020 Digital Season for free to view the films on ADT’s website.
