Victory for invincible Stingrays

Flinders University’s women’s football team has smashed the season, finishing undefeated following a spectacular grand final on the weekend that saw them beat Blackfriars Old Scholars 4.7 (31) to 2.1 (13).

The Stingrays, as they’re known, commenced in 2016 and the team has enjoyed a successful run since, playing two premierships, but this Saturday was its first win.

Best on Ground was Milli Gentle (pictured below, taking a mark in the game) who is studying a Bachelor of Sport, Health and Physical Activity at Flinders, and also played for Glenelg in the SANFL women’s competition this year.

Katrina Lee of the New Venture Institute is the only staff member on the team this year and is also Vice-Captain.

The weekend was a double celebration, with the University’s men’s team winning their Elimination Final against Mitchell Park 11.13 (79) to 8.9 (57). Best on ground on Saturday was Brayden Croft, and James McDowell kicked three goals.

The men’s side has steadily risen after a losing streak throughout 2017 and 2018, winning several games last year but no finals ticket. Further improvement this year saw them finish fourth on the ladder.

The team will play Adelaide Lutheran in the Semi Final this Saturday. Good luck boys!

Congratulations to our women's team. 2020 undefeated premiers! 💙💙….@flindersuniversity @flindersunisportfitness @marionhotel @magainrealestate
