Raising the bar on wellness

A pared-down Raising the Bar event this year will feature ten talks at ten venues on Tuesday 20 October, including some fantastic speakers and timely topics.

Hosted by the City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters, the event has been inviting academics to share their research with a community audience in relaxed, social atmospheres for the past three years.

Previous years have seen 20 talks, however the schedule has been scaled back to ten presentations for the 2020 event to ensure social distancing restrictions are met.

Flinders University PhD candidate Matthew Iasiello will present at Cue Bar, sharing the science of mental wellbeing, how it differs from mental illness, and why it is so important.

Mr Iasiello will describe some basic skills and habits everyone can use to improve their mental wellbeing, and highlight some of the work being conducted at SAHMRI’s Wellbeing and Resilience Centre.

The Raising the Bar concept was founded in New York City and has grown into a global, award-winning event series that turns pubs into classrooms by combining education and popular culture.

The event is free but tickets are essential. Register or check out the other speakers at the Raising the Bar website.
