Tune in for Decision 2020

Join Flinders University’s international relations and US policy experts for commentary as the US Presidential Election unfolds on Wednesday 4 November, in an event livestreamed from the University’s new trading room.

The free online event is available to everyone. It will include insights from Associate Professor Rodrigo Praino and Dr Luis da Vinha, together with other political scientists teaching in the Bachelor of International Relations and Political Science degree at Flinders.

The event will be screened on the super screen in the Plaza and staff can sign in to keep an ear to the ground from their desks.

Together with experts and expertise in US politics, Flinders University has a longstanding relationship with the US Congress through its Washington Internship Program, which has hosted 120 Flinders University students since the year 2000.

The students work full-time in the office of a member of the United States Senate or House of Representatives, delivering an incredible opportunity to experience political life in Washington DC while completing two topics at George Mason University, Washington.

Three previous Washington interns will join the election event to answer questions; Lachlan Poel and Josh Sunman are currently doing their honours years, and Shannon McSkimming is completing her bachelor degree.

Meaghan King (BA/BIntRel ’18) is a Communications Consultant who completed the Flinders University Washington internship in 2017 – where she attended President Trump’s inauguration. Ms King has a keen interest in US politics but is not willing to make a prediction given the inconsistencies in polling data and the unusual circumstances of the year. Read more
