Time to nominate our ‘Tall Poppies’ of science

The 2021 Young Tall Poppy Science Awards are now open for nomination. Now in its 23rd year of operation, the annual Young Tall Poppy Science Awards were created to recognise and celebrate the achievements of Australian scientists – and Flinders University scientists have been notable among the successful Tall Poppies in recent years.

Recipients of the Young Tall Poppy Science Awards promote interest in science among students in all stages of learning, teachers and peers, and also provide understanding and an appreciation of science in the broader community.

During 2020 – despite disruptions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic – the award organisers received more than 260 applications from across Australia, resulting in 60 Young Tall Poppy awards made across each state and territory that have now been posted online with a separate page featuring the Young Tall Poppy of the Year for each State and Territory.

The Tall Poppy Campaign, through the Australian Institute of Policy and Science (AIPS), has scheduled several information sessions to be conducted online to explain the nomination process and the awards. Times, dates and zoom links are listed on the Tall Poppy webpage and there is no need to register for these events.

Further information about the awards and application form is available on the Young Tall Poppy Page of the AIPS website and the nominations close on April 1, 2021.
