Works in progress at Social Sciences North and car park 5

Refurbishments continue across Social Sciences North this week, and more temporary accessible car parks will be made available in car park 5 while general works are in progress.

Advanced notice: Upcoming works in Laneway

Resurfacing works in and around the Laneway and Matthew Flinders Theatre will commence in late May. Some areas will not be accessible to pedestrians at this time and there will be a detour in place through the Humanities courtyard. Please take care when moving through this area and follow any signage in place.

Learning Space Program – Social Sciences North 102, 242 and accessible ramp

The 2022 Learning Space Program will commence in the Social Science North (SSN) building rooms 102 and 242 on Wednesday 11 May. This work will involve converting the existing lecture theatre (102) to a split-level collaborative teaching space, refurbishing the mini-lecture room (242) into an improved collaborative teaching space, and rebuilding external steps and ramps to improve accessibility.

Please be aware that several areas will be affected during these works:

  • Egress from north-east side of the campus – Student Hub, Central Library, Humanities courtyard, Flinders Laneway and car park 5 to the south of the campus SSS, Law Commerce & Education buildings.
  • Steps and ramps from Humanities Road to SSN courtyard (see specific access and detour details below).
  • Rooms 102 and 242.

Some detours around these works will be in place, so please follow directional signage in place. For any access assistance, please call Security on 8201 2880. The works are anticipated to be completed by the end of July 2022.

Access requirements from car park 5 to SSN courtyard

For people with access requirements, additional temporary access parks will be available on the upper level of car park 5, as well as existing access parks on the ground level. Access from the upper level to the SSN courtyard will remain open. Access from the lower level of car park 5 to SSN will be unavailable while the works continue. People with Australian National Disability parking permits or short-term support permits can continue to use access parks in nearby car parks 4 and 6 to avoid disruption.

General detour in place from car park 5 to SSN courtyard

Pedestrian detours during the SSN works will be diverted through the SSN foyer, past Flinders University Museum of Art (FUMA), while the work zone is in place. Please avoid this area if possible while construction works take place and follow all directional signage in place.
