Wear It Purple to proudly show support

Staff and students are invited to attend this year’s celebration of Wear It Purple Day on Friday August 26, to show their support of safe, empowering and inclusive environments for LGBTQIA+ young people.

Put on your favourite purple outfit to help celebrate the day and show young people at Flinders University that the community supports and accepts them, and to be proud of their identity.

Wear It Purple Day is also a visible representation of the commitment to challenging societal attitudes that will help shape a better world for all people to live in.

To mark its first official event since being re-launched, the Flinders University Pride Network is hosting a special morning tea at Alere Function Centre featuring:

  • Welcome to Country from Uncle Lewis Yarlupurka O’Brien, Flinders Elder in Residence.
  • A special performance from superstar queer poet Chris Jaksa.
  • A panel discussion exploring avenues to create safe universities for LGBTQIA+ young people.

The event at Alere Function Centre will also be livestreamed for online access and broadcast onto the Super Screen at Bedford Park.

Staff and students at our Victoria Square and Alice Springs campuses are invited to attend a catered morning tea to watch the livestreamed event, and those based in Darwin are encouraged to wear purple to the 25th anniversary event to show their support.
