Female students with an eye for science

Science is Everywhere! It’s the theme at the heart of the 2022 Cochlear Aurora Photo Contest, run by Flinders University’s STEM Women Branching Out group, which is open to female South Australian and Northern Territory high school students from Years 7-to-12.

Entries are now open for the Aurora Photo Competition, with a total prize pool of more than $4500 awarded to students and their schools across several categories – including 4 x $500 prizes for winning photos

‘Eternal Flame’ by Lillian Ernst from Mary MacKillop College 1st Place Winner (SA) of the 11 & 12 category 2021 contest.

The competition provides an opportunity to engage with prospective female STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Maths) students and the organisers are keen for the Flinders community to share details with friends or family and encourage young women eligible to enter who may want to pursue a STEM career.

Entries can be submitted to Flinders.edu.au/aurora-photo by 5pm, 7 October 2022.

STEM Women Branching Out is an initiative established for young women at Flinders University, making STEM more inclusive. The group aims to ensure that young women are supported in their choice of STEM research and education, providing them with a greater awareness of what STEM study areas and careers are.

Through STEM Enrichment and inclusion programs, the group aims to build STEM capabilities across a wider audience of young women across South Australia and the Northern Territory. Programs involve an array of online, networking, mentoring, inspirational events and resources to ensure female STEM students remain engaged during their study, form meaningful contacts and build useful networks facilitating their transition to work in STEM fields after graduation.
