Fearlessly delving into the deepest water

Digital innovations can help detect ancient sites under the sea, as Maritime archaeologist Dr John McCarthy explains in the latest Flinders University Fearless Minds interview.

Dr McCarthy’s work with AI technology is providing a smart alternative to the costly and time consuming process of exploring the ocean’s floor for signs of human history.

Dr McCarthy is the recipient of ARC DECRA funding that is dedicated to developing the hi-tech solution that can pinpoint potential Aboriginal archaeological material in large survey areas. These areas can then be examined through scientific dives along the Australian coastline.
