Grad named Global Australian of the Year

Celebrated Flinders graduate Professor Terence Tao was recently named Global Australian of the Year for 2022 by Advance.org. This accomplishment comes after his many other accolades, including winning the Fields Medal in 2006 – regarded as the world’s leading prize for mathematics.

Professor Tao, now based at UCLA in the United States, is one of the world’s leading mathematicians. A child genius, he enrolled at school at the age of five and was writing computer programs by the age of six.

He remains one of the youngest students ever to enrol at Flinders University, graduating with a masters degree at the age of 16.

Throughout his career, Professor Tao has made countless ground-breaking discoveries. His current focus is developing the next generation of mathematicians, and he continues to attract students from around the world who are eager to study with him at UCLA.
