Students celebrate exceptional staff

Students have acknowledged the wonderful academic staff at Flinders University in the annual 2022 Student-Led Teaching Awards (SLTAs).

The awards, introduced in 2021, have grown in popularity, with the number of nominations doubling in 2022 to recognise remarkable academic staff.

Flinders University Student Association (FUSA) invited all students to nominate teaching staff in four categories (College SLTA, TA that Saved the Day, Most Supportive Supervisor, and Best in Flo), before an all-student judging panel, chaired by the FUSA Education Officer, had the difficult task of reviewing the 195 nominations and selecting the best in each category.

The SLTAs offer a way for students to recognise and raise the profile of teaching at Flinders University while celebrating best practice. FUSA congratulates all the winners of the 2022 Student-Led Teaching Awards.

Dr Steve Corrie was also named the University Ducks in Teaching (Best of the Best), as the top nomination from across all six Colleges. His citation offered this high praise: “Dr Steve Corrie is an exemplary academic, and a thoroughly nice guy. Culturally responsive, a pedagogy of compassion, and care and ethics – he is the ideal role model for Undergraduate and Masters students entering the field of education.”

FUSA would like to thank all students who took the time to nominate staff for these awards, and such inspiring nominations made the judging process very competitive. The SLTA’s will return in 2023 and we look forward to celebrating our wonderful academic staff.
