Tips and tricks to master The Conversation

To improve the reach of your research, The Conversation’s Pitching and Writing Masterclass will help you to write stories that effectively connect with non-academic audiences.

The Conversation is a not-for-profit publisher of expert research analysis that commissions evidence-based content from academics and researchers, which is edited in collaboration with authors – and then published on its popular website that reaches a large global audience.

To help tailor your research story for publication in The Conversation, the masterclass sessions identify many of the common mistakes that academics make when sharing their research with the media, industry, politicians and the public.

Masterclass participants will develop a story “pitch” for a targeted media or industry publisher of their choice (with guidance from The Conversation’s editors), draft a headline and the first two paragraphs of a story, and learn a few tricks to make a success of any radio and broadcast interview.

The next round of masterclasses will be held during the next three months. Please note that participants are required to attend both sessions:

  • Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 February, 10am-noon AEST
  • Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 February, 10am-noon AEST
  • Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 March, 10am-noon AEST
  • Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 April, 10.30am-12.30pm AEST
