In honour of International Open Access Week, the Library recently hosted a number of events for the university research community, with 137 people attending throughout the week.
The keynote event was opened by Professor Vincent Bulone, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Performance and Impact), who shared his own success story with open access publishing and said it was a “very important event for the University”. Professor Bulone was then joined by Prashant Pandey, Director of Library Services, for a ceremonial cake cutting.
Guests were also treatede to a panel discussion featuring Professor Timothy Cavagnaro, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Training and Capabilities) and Dean of Graduate Research, Professor Raj Shekhawat, Dean (Research) EPSW, Professor Sharyn Roach Anleu, Dean (Research) CHASS, and moderated by Liz Walkley Hall (Library Associate Director).
The week also featured hands on workshops for researchers on topics like creating a data management plan, publishing reports, funder mandates, and avoiding predatory publishers.
The Library continues to champion the shift to open up access and increase exposure to university research. Researchers and HDRs at Flinders can make their work open access at no cost through the Library by publishing open access in a journal and having the fee waived through a Read & Publish deal, or sharing research manuscripts and data in one of the Library’s online repository platforms.
