Seven new research grants and a research excellence award for Flinders University were announced at the annual Channel 7 Children’s Research Foundation (CRF) presentations last week.
The latest grant recipients are:
Associate Professor Daniel King (EPSW) received funding to evaluate adolescent mental health and wellbeing in the context of digital device policies (e.g. phone bans) in secondary schools.
Associate Professor Jessica Paterson (EPSW) will embark on a proof of efficacy study to develop an integrated treatment of posttraumatic stress and sleep disturbance in adolescents.
Dr Emma Grace (EPSW) will measure the effectiveness and explore learning patterns from an eight-week systematic, “synthetic, high-dosage, technology-supported phonics program” to enhance early reading skills in 4-6 year old children.
Dr Amanda Machell (MPH) will investigate life-threatening anaphylaxis incidents in South Australian primary and secondary schools with a view to boost prevention and management practices through standardised reporting.
Dr Andrew Hayles (MPH) will work on plasma-enhanced bioactive wound dressings for treating paediatric Epidermolysis Bullosa.
Profsesor Melanie Takarangi (EPSW) received funding for her project to build adolescents’ emotional regulation skills for managing exposure to negative social media content.
Dr Vi Khanh Truong (MPH) will look into using Gallium-Silver Nanoparticle formulations as a novel therapeutic strategy for treating chronic suppurative otitis media in paediatric patients.
Meanwhile, Professor Rebecca Golley received the CRF Excellence in Research Award for outstanding achievements in children’s research.
