Getting your workstation set-up right at work or when working from home can assist in preventing musculoskeletal disorders and other physical injuries. Poor posture and prolonged sitting are common contributing factors to musculoskeletal disorders such as soreness, aches or pain in the lower back, neck or wrists. Regularly review and adjust your workstation set up to suit your needs, which includes your desk, chair, monitors, keyboard and mouse to help prevent discomfort, injuries or disorders.

HEALTHY HABITS
- Take regular rest breaks to stretch and vary your posture. WorkRave software can be installed from the IT Support Portal to assist with prompting you to take regular breaks
- Stay hydrated – drink lots of water throughout the day
- Wear appropriate footwear when standing (high heels can be problematic)
- Keep feet shoulder width apart when standing
- Don’t stand for too long – alternate between seated and standing postures every 30 minutes.
If you have pre-existing health conditions you should consult with your treating medical professional on frequency, duration and recommended posture when standing.
