
Hazel Hawke Research Grants in Dementia Care
Congratulations to two Flinders researchers who have won grants in the latest round of Dementia Australia Research Foundation funding. Dr Miia Rahja, Senior Research Fellow in the College of Medicine and Public Health has been awarded a Post-Doctoral Fellowship for her project, Turning evidence into action: guiding policy reform for equitable access to dementia rehabilitation. Dr Suzanne Dawson, Senior Research Fellow (Mental Health) in the Caring Futures Institute, has been awarded a Project Grant for her work on, Implementing Safewards: a restraint-reduction program to improve care for people with dementia in hospital.
Apron-Sorrow/ Sovereign-Tea makes Stella Prize longlist
Flinders academic, Narungga woman and poet Associate Professor Natalie Harkin’s latest book, Apron-Sorrow / Sovereign-Tea, was last week named as one of 12 finalists for the Stella Prize, one of the country’s most prestigious literary prizes awarded annually to new work by Australian women and non-binary writers across all genres. Spanning poetry, memoir, fiction, non-fiction and graphic works, the 2026 longlist presents themes that explore the transformative power of memory, truth and the intrinsic beauty of creative fiction. Published last year by Wakefield Press, the book explores South Australia’s decades-long history of Aboriginal women being compelled into domestic servitude. International success for Big Talks for Little People
Congratulations to Professor Phillip Slee, Professor Shane Pill, Associate Professor Deb Agnew and the team at Big Talks for Little People on the successful trial of the Big Talks for Little People Mental Health Education program by our university partners in Turkey, in Turkish language. A publication of the trial is our for review. Coming up next, the Greek language version of the program will be trialled at schools in Greece.
S&S acquires world rights to Barry quartet
Simon & Schuster Australia has acquired world rights to The Northshine Quartet, a new contemporary series by Associate Professor Amy Barry. Using the pen name of Amy Matthews, she is the author of Someone Else’s Bucket List, Best, First and Last and the forthcoming The House on Tinker Street. The four-book series centres on the four Harkness sisters in the years following their youngest sister’s disappearance. Read more
