{"id":10544,"date":"2018-08-07T09:47:29","date_gmt":"2018-08-07T00:17:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/?p=10544"},"modified":"2018-08-07T14:57:09","modified_gmt":"2018-08-07T05:27:09","slug":"free-public-lectures-flinders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/2018\/08\/07\/free-public-lectures-flinders\/","title":{"rendered":"Free public lectures at Flinders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Exercise as the antidote to frail bones, teaching critical thinking, Vikings and vaccination history all feature in a host of free public lectures at Flinders this month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exercise- An essential medicine to prevent frail bones, falls and fractures<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The MDRI is hosting Professor Robin Daly, who is Chair in Exercise and Ageing,\u00a0 Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition at Deakin University, to present an overview of the latest research and mobile technology that supports exercise for improved musculoskeletal health and lowered risk of falls and fractures.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Daly is an expert in clinical and translational research that integrates exercise and nutrition in preventing and managing chronic disease &#8211;\u00a0 particularly musculoskeletal conditions, diabetes, cancer and cognitive related disorders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where:\u00a0 <\/strong>Lecture Theatre 2, Flinders at Tonsley<\/p>\n<p><strong>When:\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>Tuesday 14 August 2018, 10:00am<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/research.flinders.edu.au\/rp\/Blog\/9986\/seminars-conferences-and-workshops-mdri-guest-seminar-with-professor-robin-daly\">Find out more<\/a> or register by emailing <a href=\"mailto:debbie.cocks@flinders.edu.au\">Debbie Cocks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teaching critical thinking more effectively<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While critical thinking is essential to a university education, it is often implied rather than directly taught. This lecture will address some of the issues academics face in grappling with this problem and explores ways to make the teaching of critical thinking more effective.<\/p>\n<p>This meeting of the &#8216;Writing across the Curriculum &amp; Inside the Disciplines Community of Practice&#8217; will feature Dr Sandra Egege on effective teaching for the development of critical thinking capacity and skill.
