{"id":11477,"date":"2019-02-19T09:12:00","date_gmt":"2019-02-18T22:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/?p=11477"},"modified":"2019-02-27T16:18:16","modified_gmt":"2019-02-27T05:48:16","slug":"brilliance-in-teaching-applauded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/2019\/02\/19\/brilliance-in-teaching-applauded\/","title":{"rendered":"Brilliance in teaching applauded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Vice-Chancellor\u2019s Awards for Excellence in Teaching including the new Innovation in Teaching Awards were presented to outstanding teachers on Friday 15 February 2019.<\/p>\n<p>An event at Alere celebrated some of Flinders highest achievers in teaching, with nine awards presented acknowledging excellence and innovation across all six Colleges.<\/p>\n<p>In handing out the awards, Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling warmly congratulated the 2019 winners, looked on by an audience that included many past winners of the teaching awards.<\/p>\n<p>Both Professor Stirling and event MC, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) Professor Clare Pollock, spoke about the crucial role of quality teachers, and how significantly they influence student achievements and their future impact in the world. Professor Stirling shared an inspiring story on some of his most influential university teachers and how they played a crucial role not only in learning, but also in his perceptions of science, subject decisions, and ultimately his career.<\/p>\n<p>All winners received a certificate, with recipients of the Excellence in Teaching award receiving $5000, and Innovation in Teaching recipients Engineering, for innovation in delivery of core biology topics that promote engagement, support student transition, ignite a passion for learning and improve overall student learning
