Consultation workshops are taking place across Flinders nationally this week to shape the University\u2019s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), on the understanding that meaningful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is a whole-of-university responsibility.<\/p>\n

A draft RAP has been developed by the University as part of its commitment to improving the lives and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.<\/p>\n

The first workshop took place at Alere, Bedford Park campus, on Monday 1 July 2019 with almost 100 staff in attendance. The remainder of the week will see workshops follow in Darwin and Alice Springs, including video conferencing facilities for those located remotely. All workshops are being facilitated by Professor Tom Calma AO, Co-Chair of Reconciliation Australia, with participants reporting that the conversations are reflecting deep thinking and courage, and commitment to making a difference and bringing lasting change.<\/p>\n

The development of the Flinders University RAP is a significant occasion in the history of the University, and in the broader context of the nation as momentum builds towards achieving genuine reconciliation.<\/p>\n

Flinders\u2019 RAP strategies are intended to increase respect for Indigenous knowledge systems and perspectives, to progress advancement in education, research, employment and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.<\/p>\n

A RAP Working Group has been established which is working collaboratively across the University and the wider community – including gathering feedback from alumni – to further develop the RAP.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
