{"id":17274,"date":"2021-10-26T11:42:43","date_gmt":"2021-10-26T01:12:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/?p=17274"},"modified":"2022-07-26T14:35:02","modified_gmt":"2022-07-26T05:05:02","slug":"2021-uncle-lewis-yarluburka-obrien-public-lecture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/2021\/10\/26\/2021-uncle-lewis-yarluburka-obrien-public-lecture\/","title":{"rendered":"2021 Uncle Lewis Yarlupurka O\u2019Brien Lecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Join us for the <a href=\"https:\/\/events.flinders.edu.au\/events\/uncle-lewis-yarluburka-obrien-public-lecture\/\">2021 Uncle Lewis Yarlupurka O\u2019Brien Public Lecture<\/a>, an event that recognises Uncle Lewis\u2019 eldership, knowledge and cultural scholarship, his commitment to education &#8211; particularly higher education &#8211; and his generosity of spirit to the South Australia community and specifically to Flinders University.<\/p>\n<p>The theme of this year&#8217;s lecture, on Wednesday 3 November at Alere Function Centre,\u00a0is <em>Compelled to forget and forced to remember,\u00a0<\/em>and it will examine how the time has come to own and be truthful about Australia&#8217;s past.<\/p>\n<p>The address will be delivered by Dr Jackie Huggins AM FAHA, Co-Chair for the Treaty Advancement Committee (TAC) with the Queensland Government. The TAC will lead Queensland on the next stage of establishing a Treaty process.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flinders.edu.au\/people\/simone.tur\">Associate Professor Simone Tur<\/a>, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Indigenous), will facilitate the lecture.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be held from 5.30pm at Alere Function Centre, and streamed online.
