{"id":19527,"date":"2022-10-11T08:00:20","date_gmt":"2022-10-10T21:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/?p=19527"},"modified":"2022-10-06T17:40:58","modified_gmt":"2022-10-06T07:10:58","slug":"flinders-cancer-centre-celebrates-10th-anniversary-with-global-ranking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/2022\/10\/11\/flinders-cancer-centre-celebrates-10th-anniversary-with-global-ranking\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating 10 years of the FCIC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Flinders University and Flinders Foundation are celebrating 10 years of hope and healing at the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer (FCIC).<\/p>\n<p>Opened in 2012, FCIC was South Australia\u2019s first integrated cancer centre, combining world-class compassionate care and survivorship with groundbreaking prevention and early intervention research.\u202fFrom its inception, it has been driven by a passion and vision for our community to live happier and longer lives, with the people they love.<\/p>\n<p>As part of Flinders Foundation&#8217;s new campaign, you can read first-hand experiences of researchers, clinicians and patients, and how the compassion and kindness of the community has helped shape FCIC\u2019s remarkable history.<\/p>\n<p>FCIC been home to significant breakthroughs since it opened a decade ago. This cutting-edge research includes the discovery of a link between red meat and cancer, and a bowel cancer test which contributed to the development of Australia\u2019s national bowel cancer screening program.<\/p>\n<p>With a focus on wellness over illness, the FCIC established the world\u2019s oldest cancer survivorship conference in 2013 and is now a world-leader in the field. The Flinders survivorship program includes a Wellness Centre on the ground floor of FCIC, which provides holistic support to people with cancer and their families.<\/p>\n<p>To commemorate the 10-year anniversary, Flinders Foundation is sharing first-hand experiences of researchers, clinicians and patients, and how the compassion and kindness of the community has helped shape FCIC\u2019s remarkable history at <a href=\"https:\/\/cancer.flindersfoundation.org.au\">https:\/\/cancer.flindersfoundation.org.au<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>A global rankings present<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a timely boost to anniversary celebrations, FCIC has recently been ranked 7<sup>th<\/sup> in Australia and 230<sup>th<\/sup> in the world for specialised oncology hospitals by global news site Newsweek &#8211; one of only a few South Australian hospitals featured in the rankings, and the only SA hospital in the oncology speciality.<\/p>\n<p>Newsweek\u2019s <em>World&#8217;s Best Specialized Hospitals 2023<\/em> is based on a global survey of medical professionals, run in partnership with global research firm Statista.
