{"id":19682,"date":"2022-10-28T13:57:12","date_gmt":"2022-10-28T03:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/?p=19682"},"modified":"2022-11-02T09:13:17","modified_gmt":"2022-11-01T22:43:17","slug":"seven-new-childrens-research-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/2022\/10\/28\/seven-new-childrens-research-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Seven new children&#8217;s research grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seven Flinders University research projects will receive grants from the <a href=\"https:\/\/crf.org.au\/tag\/2023-research-grant\/\">Channel 7 Children&#8217;s Research Foundation (CRF),<\/a> adding to a long list of important clinical, community and fundamental research being undertaken in South Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The annual grants announcement and awards program, this year attended by Dr James Muecke AM on behalf of the foundation&#8217;s patron Her Excellency Frances Adamson AC (Governor of South Australia), promotes SA research efforts and celebrates the achievements and outcomes of research and researchers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19734\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19734\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19734 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2022\/10\/Anna-Ziersch-award-300x176.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"176\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2022\/10\/Anna-Ziersch-award-300x176.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2022\/10\/Anna-Ziersch-award-768x450.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2022\/10\/Anna-Ziersch-award.jpg 919w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19734\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Associate Professor Ziersch receives the 2022 Dennis Earl Award for outstanding achievement in children&#8217;s welfare research from Greg Ward, Executive Director of the Channel 7 Children&#8217;s Research Foundation, and His Excellency Dr James Muecke AM, Deputy Governor of SA.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Associate Professor Anna Ziersch<\/strong>, from the College of Medicine and Public Health, received the Dennis Earl Award for outstanding achievement in children&#8217;s welfare research.<\/p>\n<p>Chief investigators from four Flinders colleges received CRF grants this year, from a total of 18 grants worth $1.5 million in funding that has been awarded to local universities, local health network researchers and institutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Nicola Anstice<\/strong> (College of Nursing and Health Sciences) will receive funding of $99,439 for a two-year program: Providing school based eye care to improve learning and promote equitable outcomes in South Australia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Joanne Arciuli<\/strong> (CNHS) &#8211; $99,988 &#8211; High Quality Online Literacy Instruction for South Australian Children with Down Syndrome.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Tracey Wade<\/strong> (College of Education, Psychology and Social Sciences) &#8211; $99,996 &#8211; Perfection is the enemy of progress and good mental health: A Randomised Controlled Trial of guided parent-delivered Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for children&#8217;s perfectionism.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Kathina Ali<\/strong> (CEPSW) &#8211; $36,124 &#8211; Early Career Researcher grant to investigate Supporting adolescents on the waitlist for eating disorder treatment: A pilot randomised controlled trial.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Associate Professor Jillian Carr<\/strong> (College of Medicine and Public Health) &#8211; $98,679 &#8211; The impact of the complement system on fetal brain and retinal development during viral infection.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Amy Wyatt<\/strong> (CMPH) &#8211; $94,995 &#8211; The Cool Brain Hall of Fame: Using examples from popular culture to de-stigmatise learning differences in primary schools.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Sunita Ramesh<\/strong> (College of Science and Engineering) &#8211; $91,816 &#8211; Testing combined therapies as a powerful tool for controlling paediatric Glioblastoma multiform invasiveness.<\/p>\n<p>Expressions of interest for the next CRF grant funding in 2024 open in February 2023.
