The next Cosmos Science City<\/a> free CBD lunchtime lecture on 1 August will coincide with the the start of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Professor Annette Briley, a clinical academic at Flinders University and the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network, will join other South Australian experts for an informed panel discussion at The Science Exchange.<\/p>\n

The theme of the UN-declared week, which runs from 1-7 August, is: Let\u2019s make breastfeeding and work, work!<\/p>\n

Panellist will discuss a range of\u00a0 issues related to breastfeeding and nutrition, parental care, and the health care environment.<\/p>\n

Professor Briley is a nurse and midwife and has worked on many clinical trials which have changed clinical practice, including pregnancy outcomes for women with obesity.<\/p>\n

“Breastfeeding benefits all, but emerging evidence suggests heavier women and their offspring have even more reasons to breast feed and breast feed for longer than their leaner counterparts,” she says.<\/p>\n

Around the world, fewer than half of infants under six months of age are exclusively breastfed.<\/p>\n

Other panellist include: breast health researcher Associate Professor Wendy Ingman; NHMRC Early Career Fellow Dr Amy Keir, a Consultant Neonatologist at the Women\u2019s and Children\u2019s Hospital, and UniSA Lecturer in Midwifery Kassie Whitworth.<\/p>\n

Each month Cosmos Science City brings together Adelaide\u2019s brightest academics and scientists to hold conversations with a live audience about issues of the day.<\/p>\n

This event will also be live streamed from 12.30pm-1.30pm\u00a0 (ACST) on Tuesday August 1 – or the public is welcome to attend the interactive discussion at The Science Exchange auditorium at 55 Exchange Place, between Pirie St and Grenfell St, Adelaide. Register here<\/a><\/p>\n
