A century of invaluable contributions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Former Flinders University Chancellor Sir Eric Neal has marked his 100th birthday with a range of celebrations, including a morning tea at Flinders City Campus, hosted by current Chancellor John Hood.<\/p>\n

Chancellor Hood thanked guests for joining the celebration, and honoured Sir Eric’s invaluable contributions to Flinders University. Guests were also invited to share their memories of their time working with Sir Eric, making it a truly special and insightful occasion.<\/p>\n

The event took place on level 14 of Flinders City Campus, overlooking UniSA’s The Bradley Building, which paid homage to Sir Eric on its digital display.<\/p>\n

National leader in future skills<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"Flinders University has won the Best Future Skills Provider at the Defence and National Security Workforce Awards 2024. Honouring our commitment to innovation, diversity, and industry collaboration, the win recognises Flinders’ efforts to prepare a skilled and capable workforce for the future through our innovative Graduate Diploma of Digital Technologies and new suite of nuclear programs, offered through a tri-national partnership with The University of Manchester and The University of Rhode Island. The suite currently includes undergraduate majors, microcredentials and, from midyear, will expand to include a suite of postgraduate courses. Detecting young-onset bowel cancer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Geraldine Laven-Law<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Geraldine Laven-Law<\/a> has been awarded the inaugural Dr Sarah Barlow Bowel Cancer Foundation Research Grant for her project on developing a blood test to detect young-onset bowel cancer. With Geraldine’s work being conducted alongside Associate Professor Erin Symonds<\/a> and Jean Winter<\/a>, the project aims to identify new biomarkers for early detection, which will improve health outcomes for young people. This $50,000 grant supports the Foundation\u2019s vision to advance early diagnosis and treatments of bowel cancer in young people.<\/p>\n

Associate Professor Barbara Baird<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Associate Professor Barbara Baird<\/a> spoke to LOTL TV<\/a> about Personal Politics: sexuality, gender and the remaking of citizenship in Australia<\/em>, an insightful examination of the collective and cumulative impact gender and sexuality activism has had on citizenship in Australia since the 1960s.<\/p>\n

The book is the result of a partnership between Assosciate Professor Baird and Macquarie University’s Associate Professor Leigh Boucher, Professor Michelle Arrow and Robert Reynolds.<\/p>\n
