Welcome Professor David Currow<\/strong><\/p>\n

Professor David Currow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Ray Chan is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor David Currow to the role of Strategic Professor (Flinders Ageing Alliance) from 16 June 2025.\u00a0 David will be responsible for\u00a0supporting the Flinders Ageing\u00a0Alliance leadership\u00a0in advancing the University\u2019s mission in ageing-related research, innovation and community engagement.\u00a0In addition to undertaking his own research, he will actively foster transdisciplinary research across Colleges and Research Institutes\/Centres and external stakeholders to position the University as a national and global leader in ageing, cancer and palliative care research.<\/p>\n

David has been appointed on a 0.4FTE basis and will be based in the Health and Medical Research Building, Level 3 Room 369.\u00a0 Generally, he will be on site Mondays and Tuesdays every fortnight.<\/p>\n

Flinders PhD awarded prestigious fellowship<\/strong><\/p>\n

Brad Darkson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Congratulations to PhD student Brad Darkson from the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences who has been awarded the prestigious 2025 John Mulvaney Fellowship by the Australian Academy of the Humanities.<\/p>\n

A Narungga man, Brad\u2019s research explores First Nations knowledge of seaweed management and coastal stewardship, combining science, philosophy, and art to empower Indigenous leadership in environmental care.<\/p>\n

The Fellowship will support his international collaboration with First Nations communities in Canada and the US, culminating in a landmark interdisciplinary art exhibition.<\/p>\n

\u201cArt is an excellent way to communicate science and philosophy,\u201c says Darkson.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst Nations communities should be at the forefront of environmental management and my research output will contribute to empowering Indigenous people to be leaders in this important work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Professor Rodney Brooks<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Flinders alumnus elected to the National Academy of Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n

Professor Rodney Brooks is one of five MIT faculty members to be elected in recognition of their \u201cdistinguished and continuing achievements in original research\u201d to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), a United States non-profit, non-governmental organisation.<\/p>\n

Membership to NAS is one of the highest honours a scientist can receive in their career. Professor Brooks is the Panasonic Professor of Robotics Emeritus at MIT and the chief technical officer and co-founder of Robust AI. Previously, he was founder, chair, and CTO of Rethink Robotics and founder and CTO of iRobot Corp.<\/p>\n
