After two decades in international education, Kenny Khoo decided it was time to pursue an International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) Associate Fellowship. He tells us why he’s so passionate about advocating for the sector and how he hopes to help staff deliver on our global ambitions.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

What is your role at Flinders and what does it entail?<\/strong><\/p>\n

As the\u00a0Manager International Compliance and Risk, I work with various stakeholders to ensure that Flinders University is compliant with the ESOS Act and any related legislation involving the delivery of education and training to overseas students.<\/p>\n

You recently pursued an<\/strong> International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) Associate Fellowship, what does it represent for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

After two decades in international education, I wanted recognition that goes beyond a r\u00e9sum\u00e9. The fellowship validates my professional past and signals my commitment to future opportunities and growth in the sector.<\/p>\n

For staff unfamiliar with IEAA, how would you sum up its role and why it matters at Flinders?<\/strong><\/p>\n

IEAA champions the sector and represents our voice to policymakers at a time when parts of the debate have overlooked the benefits of international education. The sector contributed around A$51 billion in 2023\u201324. For Flinders, the value of international students and our global partnerships is clear and aligns with our student-centred ethos.<\/p>\n

How will your involvement help Flinders broaden its international reach and enrich experiences for students and partners?<\/strong><\/p>\n

IEAA will continue to advocate for the industry, and it is hard to imagine a university not being part of that representation. I hope my fellowship sparks more interest at Flinders. IEAA\u2019s knowledge sessions can help staff deliver on our global ambitions.<\/p>\n

What is your favourite part about working in international education?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We constantly need to challenge ourselves to improve, I believe that an international education experience is one of the best ways to challenge oneself. My favourite part of working in international education is knowing that my contributions will have a lasting impact on people’s lives.<\/p>\n

What do you do to unwind?<\/strong><\/p>\n

If the bank balances would allow, I would jump off a plane ever so frequently. However, I recently purchased a Shakti Mat, and it is fast becoming the best money spent in a while!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
