{"id":25226,"date":"2025-12-15T14:55:43","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T04:25:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/?p=25226"},"modified":"2025-12-16T10:48:24","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T00:18:24","slug":"celebrating-success-301","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/2025\/12\/15\/celebrating-success-301\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Improving commissioning processes for Indigenous health and wellbeing programs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25264 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/fit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/12\/health.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"153\" height=\"219\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Research published in the November issue of the <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1186\/s12939-025-02675-0\">International Journal for Equity in Health<\/a>, new research provides clear guidance about how to improve practices around the commissioning and evaluation of Indigenous health and wellbeing programs.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Co-author\u00a0<span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/staff.flinders.edu.au\/staff-directory\/staff-directory-person-details?SD_UserID=624637102\">Professor Margaret Cargo<\/a>, from the College of Medicine and Public Health, was part of a collaborative team led by Associate Professor Summer May Finlay, a Yorta Yorta woman and public health expert at the University of Wollongong.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It is the first study in Australia seeking to characterise commissioning practices. The research was driven by calls from Indigenous leaders who wanted to influence decision-making and ensure that health and wellbeing programs reflect the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. I interviewed some of the world&#8217;s top scientists to ask: What really is\u00a0#OneHealth\u00a0and why is the concept so important?
