Flinders awarded MRFF funds\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Three Flinders research projects will now share in over $4 million from the Medical Research Future Fund, after the results of two funding schemes were recently announced<\/a> by the Federal Government.<\/p>\n

Professors Geraint Rogers, Kate Laver and David Lynn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Under the 2024 Chronic Respiratory Conditions grant opportunity, Professor Geraint Rogers<\/a> from the College of Medicine and Public Health has secured $1,348,258.80 for research focused on improving the effectiveness of inhaled therapies in rural and remote Indigenous communities.<\/p>\n

While Professor Kate Laver<\/a> from the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and Professor David Lynn<\/a> from CMPH and SAHMRI have been successful in the 2024 Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 grant opportunity.<\/p>\n

Professor Laver will receive $2,106,718.10 to trial a flexible and effective model of care for frail older Australians likely to experience Long COVID (Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19). While Professor Lynn has received $995,343.92 to better understand what causes Long COVID.<\/p>\n

Training doctors in the Territory, for the Territory<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr Dayna Duncan is awarded NT Clinical Educator of the Year by CPMEC Board Chair Dr Kevin Forsyth<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Congratulations to Dr Dayna Duncan<\/a> who has been celebrated as Prevocational Clinical Educator of the Year for the Northern Territory at the Australia and New Zealand Prevocational Medical Education Forum. The award recognises her outstanding contribution to junior doctor training and support across the NT.<\/p>\n

Dr Duncan is an ACRRM Rural Generalist Trainee currently completing her Advanced Skills Training in Academic Practice with a focus on Medical Education. Through the role of Medical Education Registrar, Dr Duncan works between the Flinders NT Medical Program and NT Health to train doctors in the Territory, for the Territory. Read more<\/a><\/p>\n

Re-imagining recovery after stroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

Professor Elizabeth Lynch wins Stroke Foundation Funding<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Congratulations to Associate Professor Elizabeth Lynch<\/a> from the College of Nursing and Health Sciences on winning an $80,000 grant to support the development of a Stroke Recovery College for Young Survivors of Stroke. The project grew from listening to survivors of stroke who often felt abandoned, lost, and uncertain during early recovery. Inspired by Recovery Colleges in mental health, the project aims to provide knowledge, peer support, and identity rebuilding for survivors. The model will be co-developed with the survivor community and explore its potential to fill a critical gap in post-stroke support.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Dr Athena Chin<\/a> from the College of Medicine and Public Health who has been awarded an NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship worth $122,675 to investigate how often clonal haematopoiesis occurs in people with rheumatoid arthritis and whether it impacts their health outcomes.
