Lectureship awarded to showcase organic chemistry research<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr Philip Norcott<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Dr Philip Norcott<\/a>, Lecturer in Chemistry, College of Science and Engineering, has been awarded the 2026 Athel Beckwith Lectureship<\/a> from the Organic Division of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI). This is a funded lectureship to an outstanding, recently appointed organic chemist, recognising leadership as an independent researcher.<\/p>\n

Over the next 12 months, Dr Norcott will present the results of his research work across Australia, which is focused on sustainable chemical synthesis and catalysis, and improving the versatility and applications of magnetic resonance techniques.<\/p>\n

Kathleen Lumley Foundation inaugural scholarships awarded\"\"<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last week, Flinders was awarded five prestigious higher degree by research (HDR) top-up scholarships from the Kathleen Lumley Foundation<\/a> \u2013 each valued at $63,000. Remarkably, all five scholarships were secured by Flinders HDR candidates, with four awarded to students from the College of Science and Engineering and one from the College of Medicine and Public Health. These awards were formally presented by the Governor of South Australia, highlighting the significance of this accomplishment at a state level. This success is a testament not only to the calibre, commitment and innovation of our HDR students, but also to the invaluable guidance and mentorship provided by their supervisors.<\/p>\n

We extend our congratulations to all recipients and their supervisors, and encourage staff to continue fostering a strong culture of scholarship awareness and support across our HDR community.<\/p>\n

Dr Rohann Irving<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Each year ABC Radio National hosts three media residencies academics in Science, Humanities and the Arts.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Dr Rohann Irving<\/a>, Research Fellow in Young Men\u2019s Digital Health, College of Medicine and Public Health who was selected in the TOP 5 for Humanities. Dr irving’s Research investigates sports betting\u2019s increasing normalisation in young men\u2019s domestic spaces and intimate relationships. See all the residencies here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now in its twelfth year, the ABC TOP 5 project aims to enable early career PhD academics to become the best communicators of their specialist research areas and help them to better communicate their work to non-academic audiences across Australia.
