This year Flinders NT was fortunate to host The Network\u2019s Towards Unity for Health TUFH2019<\/a> coinciding with its 40th Anniversary which was celebrated in style at the gala dinner. The Network<\/a> is an international organisation that fosters equitable community-oriented health services, education and research with the goal of improving local and global health.<\/p>\n

The conference was a great success with delegates attending far and wide from 29 countries around the world. It was truly a diverse, passionate group of people coming together to discuss social accountability in health at a global level.<\/p>\n

The TUFH2019 opening ceremony kicked off with an inspiring key note from The National Rural Health Commissioner Emeritus Paul Worley<\/a> which set the scene for a memorable week in Darwin to listen, present and network over workshops, poster presentations, meetings, and evening functions designed to immerse delegates in Darwin\u2019s culture.<\/p>\n

A unique part of TUFH conference is \u201cconference on the move\u201d, where delegates had the opportunity to experience an afternoon of tailor-made community site visits teamed with some of Darwin\u2019s top tourist destinations.\u00a0The evening was then topped off with a VIP cocktail function at the famous Mindil Beach Market where the \u2018Student Projects for Health\u2019 and \u2018Projects That Work\u2019 Award Ceremony was hosted by FAIMER<\/a>\/ECMFG<\/a> and GEMx<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The keynote speakers included Jusie Lydia Siega Sur<\/a>, Tom Calma<\/a>, and Dr Gurmeet Singh<\/a>\u00a0with the final address by Akiko Maede<\/a>, who spoke about \u201cKIZUNA\u201d connecting and motivating people and communities through a network of deep emotional bonds. \u201cThis is the perfect Japanese word to describe The Network Towards Unity for Health\u2026of people helping each other, helping the communities\u201d, said Aikiko.<\/p>\n

One of the outcomes of TUFH2019 in Darwin, was that collectively, and as a result of the Global Solutions Challenge Inclusive Process, the following declaration was curated and endorsed:<\/p>\n

\u201cAchieving equitable health care by responding to population health needs\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Flinders NT would like to thank the organising and scientific committees, volunteers, presenters, keynote speakers and The Network for making the conference an unforgettable event.<\/p>\n
