{"id":2372,"date":"2020-06-02T15:19:14","date_gmt":"2020-06-02T05:49:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/flinders-nt\/?p=2372"},"modified":"2020-06-03T16:02:53","modified_gmt":"2020-06-03T06:32:53","slug":"funding-gp-training-to-improve-health-services-for-women-in-the-bush","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/flinders-nt\/2020\/06\/02\/funding-gp-training-to-improve-health-services-for-women-in-the-bush\/","title":{"rendered":"Funding GP training to improve health services for women in the bush"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Are you a GP Fellow who wants to improve access to obstetric and anaesthetic services for women living in rural and remote communities?<\/p>\n<p>Through the General Practitioner Procedural Training Support Program (GPPTSP), The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) aim to improve access to obstetric and anaesthetic services for women living in rural and remote communities by supporting GPs to attain procedural skills in obstetrics or anaesthetics.<\/p>\n<p>The GPPTSP provides $40,000 of Commonwealth funding for up to 10 GP Fellows to gain either the Advanced Rural Skills Training in Anaesthesia or the Advanced Diploma of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRANZCOG Advanced).<\/p>\n<p>To be eligible, at a minimum, applicants must be a Fellow of ACRRM or RACGP whose principle clinical practice location is in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.gov.au\/resources\/apps-and-tools\/health-workforce-locator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MMM 3-7<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The anaesthetics component of the program is managed by ACRRM. To apply, you will need to be prepared to source a training position to undertake the Advanced Rural Skills Training in Anaesthesia, a Joint Consultative Committee on Anaesthesia (JCCA) qualification. Applications will be ranked based on rurality and the need for anaesthetics skills in the GP\u2019s practice location. Refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acrrm.org.au\/support\/grants\/gpptsp?utm_source=facebook&amp;utm_medium=post&amp;utm_campaign=gpptsp-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ACRRM<\/a> website for further details, application guidelines and to access the online application form.<\/p>\n<p>The obstetrics component of the program is managed by RANZCOG. Applications are open to GPs who currently hold the DRANZCOG qualification, as well as GPs who have obtained a DRANZCOG Advanced training position and commenced training after 1 July 2018. Applications will be assessed based on rurality\/remoteness of their current practice and the need for obstetric skills in their location. Successful applicants will have six months (from the date of offer) to complete the application process for the DRANZCOG Advanced and secure a training position at an accredited site.
