Get to know Elena

I am a PhD candidate with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. I commenced at Flinders in January 2022 with excitement and enthusiasm to learn and grow as an academic and researcher. I have over 30 years’ experience across the diversity of the healthcare sector from junior to executive levels and in governance level roles. I bring to this role experience and knowledge, gained across a long career and underpinned by a commitment to lifelong learning, the learning and development of organisations and individuals.

My specific area of research interest includes the older adult and issues of ageism, the relationship to public policy within healthcare settings in Australia and resultant outcomes for consumers. I have a specific focus on the Residential Aged Care setting in Australia. I will be aiming to incorporate a mixed methods approach to my research with outputs informing the future direction of attitudes towards health, public policy and care for older Australians for this and future generations of older people. It has been a challenging few years for us all and I look forward to working with the HDR community to negotiate the learning environment and research development potential of students at Flinders, representing your voices. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Get to know Priyadharshany Sandanapitchai (she/her)

I am a PhD student in the Clinical Psychology program of the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work. My research focuses on trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder. I am passionate about developing a self-guided intervention for trauma survivors that could also be expanded to culturally diverse communities.

As a budding researcher, I believe that the University Higher Degrees by Research Committee plays a vital role in providing a stimulating environment for the students with adequate support and resources. In particular, I am keen to bring in a unique perspective to diversify the voices of the committee as an international HDR student and explore ways to improve the experiences of international research scholars at Flinders. Please feel free to contact if you have any concerns or queries regarding the committee or the HDR program in general.
