Collating data from the past 37 years of research for this meta-analysis, we aimed to better understand how biased thinking styles relate to unusual beliefs. It is important to understand this relationship as the JTC bias has been theorised to be linked to the formation and maintenance of clinical delusions, conspiratorial beliefs, and other unusual beliefs in the general population.

What is your research about?

My PhD research aims to understand how the jumping to conclusions (JTC) bias is connected to belief formation.

Cognitive biases like the JTC bias are often the target of psychological interventions in the treatment of delusions and in educating about misinformation. Therefore, understanding how to accurately measure peoples thinking styles and their decision-making behvaiour can be crucial. As a part of my research, I am specifically investigating several methodological issues and aiming to improve the way JTC behaviour is measured.

What does winning this award mean to you?

I am very grateful to have received this award. While working on the meta-analysis as my first thesis chapter, we began collaborating with Rob and added him to my supervisory team as a lot of our research interests are closely aligned and throughout the PhD, I planned to build on some of his previous work.

Rose Doherty is from the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work and is one of the recipients for the 2025 Best Higher Degree by […]

[1

post-1533","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorised
["GET
