{"id":1747,"date":"2026-08-07T10:42:36","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T01:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/hdr-students\/?p=1747"},"modified":"2026-08-07T10:52:46","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T01:22:46","slug":"celebrating-our-2026-3mt-winner-stellene-vitaro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/hdr-students\/2026\/08\/07\/celebrating-our-2026-3mt-winner-stellene-vitaro\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating Our 2026 3MT Winner: Stellene Vitaro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to Stellene Vitaro from the College of Medicine and Public Health, winner of this year&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flinders.edu.au\/research\/research-training-hub\/hdr\/three-minute-thesis\">Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Stellene&#8217;s PhD research focuses on identifying biological signals, known as &#8220;biomarkers,&#8221; in the blood that can be used to develop a blood test to improve the early detection of cancer. I am passionate about contributing to research that advances our understanding of cancer and helps enable earlier detection, with the goal of improving outcomes for the many patients affected by this disease.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Reflecting on her 3MT journey, Stellene described the competition as a rewarding and invaluable experience. The competition provided an opportunity to share her research with a broad audience, connect with HDR students from across the University, and gain insight into the diverse and exciting research being undertaken at Flinders.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond showcasing her research, the competition also helped Stellene strengthen her presentation, communication and public speaking skills. Through preparation and feedback from the judges, she developed greater confidence as a presenter and learned how to communicate complex research in a way that is both engaging and accessible.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I am incredibly grateful for this experience and for the support I received throughout the competition.
