The Flinders University Vice-Chancellor\u2019s Award for Excellence in Higher Degree Research (HDR) Supervision<\/a> recognises outstanding achievements across the various dimensions of excellence in supervision: the extent and range of supervision activities; the positive outcomes for students; respect and support for students as individuals; support for students\u2019 career development; and broader contribution to the development of supervisory practice within Colleges or across the University.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Associate Professor Wendy van Duivenvoorde<\/a>, Maritime Archaeology, College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, a well deserved award.<\/strong><\/p>\n

..’Wendy has gently, and occasionally forcefully, encouraged me to publish throughout my candidature and has made sure I remain conscious of career building and post-doctoral opportunities. Given that we are both the same age and that I have a professional background in other fields, her supervision has required great tact, maturity and thoughtfulness. Should I have been one of only a few candidates that Wendy supervised in this period, my experience might not read as all that remarkable. What has made it more so is that Wendy supervised as least nine other PhDs to completion during my candidature and went to great lengths to encourage collegiality and shared endeavour, including accompanying several of us together to a conference in France.’ – Mick de Ruyter<\/em><\/p>\n
