“Flinders University Academy allowed me to settle in early and ease my anxiety by laying the groundwork before moving on to my undergraduate degree.”

Originally from Guangzhou, China, Zeni’s dream of becoming a social worker began with her studies at Flinders University Academy, where she studied a Diploma in Health. This program provided her with the skills and confidence to seamlessly transition into university life and gain direct entry into a Bachelor of Social Work at Flinders University.

Zeni’s passion for supporting others and her interest in the health field led her to pursue social work as a way to combine her love of communication and desire to support vulnerable people.

“I enjoy talking with different groups of people and I hope to be able to use my knowledge and abilities to help many people in need.”

A Smooth Transition to University Life

Starting her studies at Flinders University Academy gave Zeni a strong academic foundation. The 12-month Diploma in Health allowed her to develop key skills in English, numeracy, and study skills, paving the way for her transition into her dream degree.

Beyond academics, the Academy fosters a welcoming environment for international students, ensuring a smooth adjustment to Australian university life.

“This course has acted as a transition period, allowing me to settle in early and permitting me to become less anxious by laying the groundwork before moving on to my undergraduate program,” Zeni explains.

Exceptional Support

Arriving in Australia a month late due to visa delays, Zeni faced initial concerns about falling behind in her studies. However, the support she received from the Academy’s teaching staff helped her catch up and gain confidence.

“I was anxious about being behind, but the teachers at Flinders University Academy are genuinely nice,” Zeni says. “Michael, the leading teacher in my course, was especially patient and helped me understand every topic thoroughly.”

This supportive environment gave Zeni the confidence to excel. “I am very appreciative of the support from the Academy team and the teachers. They want the best for their students and always fully support their students,” she says.

An Inspiring Campus Experience

Zeni describes Adelaide as a “dream city”, noting that the peaceful environment has provided her with a sense of comfort, ease and happiness.

Studying in the heart of Flinders University’s Bedford campus, located on a hill overlooking the ocean, plays a key role in Zeni’s academic journey. She enjoys spending time in the student hub and library, which offer quiet spaces that are perfect for focused study.

“The scenery is just breath-taking – especially the views of the ocean and sunsets from the main campus. It could be considered a mecca for learning,” she says.

Flinders University’s Bachelor of Social Work, accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), provides the high-quality education Zeni needs to succeed in her chosen profession.

“Finders social work program has an excellent reputation and accreditation from the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and is able to provide a quality education, and I believe that this will allow me to be successful in this position.”

Looking back, Zeni credits Flinders University Academy for providing her with a strong start.
