Dhin’s Journey in Creative Industries

“Flinders University Academy has given me the confidence and skills I need to transition into university life and beyond.”

If you ask Dhin about his journey to Flinders University, you’ll quickly realise it’s been nothing short of an adventure. Hailing from the bustling city of Bangkok, Thailand, Dhin knew he wanted to pursue a career in the creative industries, specifically in film and television. The only question was: where?

“I want to be a film director or a music video director,” Dhin shares. “I think Flinders suits my needs perfectly.”

That’s where Flinders University Academy came in. Designed as a stepping stone for international students, the Academy provided Dhin with the academic and personal support he needed to transition smoothly into university life. By completing a Diploma of Creative Industries, he gained the skills and knowledge required to gain direct entry into his dream degree at Flinders University –Bachelor of Creative Industries (Film and Television)

The application process was seamless. “It was very easy as long as you have all the required documents,” he says. “The staff were always available to assist with any technical issues.”

The Academy’s structured courses provided Dhin with a direct pathway to his chosen degree. “Most of the subjects I took at Flinders Academy transferred as credits to my first-year courses in the Bachelor of Creative Industries (Film and Television) program.”

Personalised Learning and Campus Life

Studying at the Flinders Academy in the heart of Bedford Park, Dhin appreciates the peaceful and scenic environment of the campus. The smaller class sizes allowed him to form connections with his teachers and classmates, making his learning experience more engaging.

“The student classes are small, which can be considered good for some people because optimistically the teacher will have more time to focus on each individual student,” he says.

“I also enjoy spending time at the Tavern, taking in the scenic views of the hills – it’s a great place to relax between classes.”

Dhin has embraced the experience of studying in Adelaide, appreciating the accessibility and welcoming atmosphere of the city. “Public transport, including buses and trains, makes getting around very convenient,” he says. “Being an international student has also helped me improve my English, as I use it every day.”

A unique highlight of his time at Flinders Academy was discovering that one of his lecturers, Benjamin Smith, speaks Spanish. “It made learning even more enjoyable – we would sometimes engage in Spanish conversations. La clase es agradable!”
