{"id":287,"date":"2020-09-15T08:30:07","date_gmt":"2020-09-15T08:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/international\/?p=287"},"modified":"2020-09-15T08:36:53","modified_gmt":"2020-09-15T08:36:53","slug":"immense-support-for-flinders-nursing-student-tshering-om","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/international\/2020\/09\/15\/immense-support-for-flinders-nursing-student-tshering-om\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Immense support&#8217; for Flinders nursing student Tshering Om"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFlinders University has given immense support,\u201d says Bhutanese nursing student, Tshering Om. \u201cAll the faculty supports every student, and they aim for excellence.\u201d This level of commitment to student support was particularly evident recently, as the Bachelor of Nursing (Pre-registration) student has been studying in Australia throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<h1>Experience to graduate career-ready<\/h1>\n<p>Tshering chose to study a Bachelor of Nursing (pre-registration) at Flinders as a way to strengthen her existing learnings. Although already experienced in nursing, she was keen to update her knowledge, and refine her skills.<\/p>\n<p>Bachelor of Nursing students gain industry experience and have placement opportunities throughout their studies. The university made sure that students were able to continue with high quality lessons, safely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the pandemic, we could successfully conduct all our classes and lab practices in campus because of the thoughtful lecturers. They quickly initiated measures to maintain social distancing and keep students and staff protected.\u201d<\/p>\n<h1>Studying at Flinders<\/h1>\n<p>Tshering says she\u2019s enjoying university life. \u201cI enjoy being in university where I get to make and meet new friends from diverse cultures and countries.\u201d The nursing student and her friends have been enjoying the natural landscape around Flinders. \u201cWe can take a walk and go for hikes \u2013 which helps maintain a healthy mindset for studying.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_210\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-210\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-210 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/87\/2020\/06\/Flinders_Landscape_HiRes__IMG_4526.jpg\" alt=\"Flinders International\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/87\/2020\/06\/Flinders_Landscape_HiRes__IMG_4526.jpg 700w, https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/87\/2020\/06\/Flinders_Landscape_HiRes__IMG_4526-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-210\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Hub, Flinders Bedford Park Campus<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Even during the COVID restrictions, Tshering has remained engaged in her course.\u00a0\u201cI was really impressed with the way the the faculty supports every student, and how they continuously aim for excellence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although she managed her studies during the lockdown period, Tshering is glad to be back on campus. \u201cThe Flinders nursing campus is calm and friendly for learning. It has a spacious library and lounge to study and do research \u2013 with friendly and supportive staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<h1>Adelaide lifestyle<\/h1>\n<p>Before choosing Adelaide, Tshering did plenty of research. \u201cI came to discover living expenses and life would be much more affordable, compared to other universities and cities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adelaide is one of the most affordable state capital cities in Australia for students (QS Best Student Cities 2018) and is rated in the Top 10 World\u2019s healthiest cities (Spotahome 2018).<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, South Australia maintained an enviably strong record during the COVID-19 crisis, thanks to restrictions being put into place quickly \u2013 and taken seriously by the wider community. Flinders University is equipped with knowledgeable, dedicated, and supportive teaching faculty and approachable staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Tshering, her decision to study at Flinders has been an anchor of safety in tough times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best thing about Flinders is you will never feel neglected.
