Strategic visits from French partners don\u2019t only lead to business contracts. In Laura Stephenson\u2019s case, they led to a 6-month internship near Paris, in the prestigious Graduate School, CentraleSupelec. Laura, now a <\/span>Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Bachelor of International Relations<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Bachelor of Letters<\/span><\/a> (French) graduate, made the most of this fantastic opportunity organised by <\/span>Dr Christele Maizonniaux<\/span><\/a> of Flinders University in partnership with Mr Marc Zolver of CentraleSupelec.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The internship\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u201cFrom September 2019 and February 2020, I undertook an internship with the Department of International Relations, at <\/span><\/i>CentraleSupelec<\/span><\/i><\/a> in Paris, France. The title of my internship was \u2018International Project Management.\u2019 CentraleSupelec is a prestigious and well-known \u2018Grand Ecole\u2019 in France, attracting highly talented students from across the country and abroad. All students at CentraleSupelec are required to complete at least one semester abroad during their studies. This keeps the International Team busy, facilitating student exchanges abroad and maintaining strong partnerships with universities across the globe.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe main aim of the institution, however, is to attract more international talent and promote an exceptional learning experience for international students.<\/span><\/i> Throughout my internship, I was involved in a variety of tasks to promote the university to international students. This included creating advertisements to attract students to CentraleSupelec, drafting documents in English, creating presentations to promote Australia as a great place to study abroad, and talking with both international and local students to discuss their experiences at CentraleSupelec. I was also lucky enough to be part of a three-day conference held at CentraleSupelec which attracted university staff from across Europe and the world. Speakers at the conference discussed the global nature of universities and how universities can better prepare for things like climate change and cultural change.”<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Exploring the language and culture<\/h2>\n

\u201cEvery week on a Thursday afternoon I took French classes with a small group of international students with a professor from the university. These lessons were a great way to improve my French and practice my speaking, as my professor only spoke French during the three-hour lesson.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDuring my time in France, I made the most of every opportunity to explore France and French culture. I visited many patisseries in Paris, museums and art galleries, and learnt how to make macarons and croissants at two different cooking schools in Paris. I also took the opportunity to visit some of France\u2019s beautiful natural attractions and smaller towns, by travelling to Marseille on the Mediterranean coast, Etretat in the North, Bordeaux on the Atlantic coast and Annecy near the Swiss Alps.” <\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A boost in motivation<\/h2>\n

\u201cOverall, the experience was one of my highlights from studying at Flinders University. It motivated me to keep practising my French, and find more opportunities to be involved in the French community, both in Australia and abroad.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Laura received a Nicolas Baudin Scholarship for this internship, which is a scheme coordinated by the French Embassy in Canberra. Before her departure, Laura had completed 6 semesters of French in the Bachelor of Letters (French) now called the Diploma of Languages. She now works for a Migration Company in Adelaide, helping migrants coming to Australia.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le stage de Laura\u202f: six mois \u00e0 Paris<\/h1>\n

Accueillir des d\u00e9l\u00e9gations fran\u00e7aises en visite en Australie ne m\u00e8ne pas uniquement \u00e0 la signature de contrats d\u2019affaire. Dans le cas de Laura Stephenson, cela a abouti <\/span>\u00e0<\/span> un stage de six mois dans la prestigieuse \u00e9cole d\u2019ing\u00e9nieurs Centralesupelec pr\u00e8s de Paris. Laura, dipl\u00f4m\u00e9e d\u2019une Licence de Droit, d\u2019une Licence en Relations Internationales et d\u2019une Licence de Fran\u00e7ais, a tir\u00e9 le meilleur parti de cette excellente opportunit\u00e9, propos\u00e9e par Christ\u00e8le Maizonniaux (Flinders University, Ad\u00e9la\u00efde) et Marc Zolver (Centralesup\u00e9lec, Paris).\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le stage<\/h2>\n

\u00ab\u202fEntre Septembre 2019 et F\u00e9vrier 2020, je suis partie faire un stage au d\u00e9partement Relations Internationales de Centralesup\u00e9lec<\/span><\/i> \u00e0 Paris. L\u2019intitul\u00e9 de mon stage \u00e9tait \u2018Management des projets internationaux\u2019. <\/span><\/i>Centralesupelec est une \u2018Grande Ecole\u2019 prestigieuse et bien connue qui attire des \u00e9tudiants hautement talentueux venant de France et de l\u2019\u00e9tranger. Tous les \u00e9tudiants de cette \u00e9cole sont tenus de passer au moins un semestre \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger pendant leurs \u00e9tudes. De ce fait, il y a beaucoup de travail pour l\u2019\u00e9quipe du d\u00e9partement Relations Internationales. Cette \u00e9quipe veille \u00e0 l\u2019organisation des s\u00e9jours <\/span><\/i>et <\/span><\/i>\u00e0 la p\u00e9rennit\u00e9 des liens<\/span><\/i> avec les universit\u00e9s du monde entier.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab\u202fIl faut noter que l\u2019objectif principal de Centralesupelec est d\u2019attirer davantage de talents internationaux et de leur garantir une exp\u00e9rience d\u2019une qualit\u00e9 exceptionnelle. Au cours de mon stage, j\u2019ai men\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re r\u00e9currente des actions visant \u00e0 attirer de nouveaux \u00e9tudiants internationaux. J\u2019ai par exemple <\/span><\/i>\u00e9labor\u00e9<\/span><\/i> des documents publicitaires en anglais, j\u2019ai aussi cr\u00e9\u00e9 des pr\u00e9sentations pour promouvoir l\u2019Australie comme destination d\u2019\u00e9tudes. J\u2019ai discut\u00e9 avec des \u00e9tudiants locaux et internationaux pour mieux comprendre leur exp\u00e9rience \u00e0 Centralesupelec. J\u2019ai aussi eu la chance de contribuer \u00e0 une conf\u00e9rence de trois jours qui r\u00e9unissait des repr\u00e9sentants d\u2019universit\u00e9s d\u2019Europe et du monde entier. Lors de cette conf\u00e9rence, les participants ont discut\u00e9 de l\u2019aspect international inh\u00e9rent \u00e0 toute universit\u00e9 et de la mani\u00e8re dont les universit\u00e9s peuvent anticiper des ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes comme le changement climatique et les changements culturels.\u00bb<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

D\u00e9couverte de la langue et culture<\/h2>\n

\u00ab\u202fChaque semaine, le jeudi apr\u00e8s-midi, j\u2019avais une classe de fran\u00e7ais avec un petit groupe d\u2019\u00e9tudiants internationaux. Ces classes \u00e9taient formidables pour am\u00e9liorer mon fran\u00e7ais d\u2019autant que notre professeur ne parlait que le fran\u00e7ais pendant trois heures.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab\u202fPendant mon s\u00e9jour en France j\u2019ai fait tout ce que j\u2019ai pu pour explorer la France et d\u00e9couvrir la culture fran\u00e7aise. A Paris, je suis all\u00e9e dans de nombreuses p\u00e2tisseries, de nombreux mus\u00e9es et galeries d\u2019art. J\u2019ai appris \u00e0 faire les macarons et les croissants dans deux \u00e9coles de cuisine diff\u00e9rentes. J\u2019ai aussi d\u00e9couvert les merveilles naturelles et les petites villes. J\u2019ai ainsi visit\u00e9 Marseille au bord de la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e, Etretat dans le Nord, Bordeaux sur la c\u00f4te atlantique et Annecy pr\u00e8s des Alpes suisses.\u00bb<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Une motivation accrue et durable<\/h2>\n

\u00ab\u202fEn conclusion, ce stage en France a \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019une des exp\u00e9riences phares de mes \u00e9tudes \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Flinders. Cela m\u2019a donn\u00e9 envie de continuer \u00e0 pratiquer mon fran\u00e7ais, que ce soit en Australie (en \u00e9tant impliqu\u00e9e dans la communaut\u00e9 fran\u00e7aise par exemple) ou \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger.\u202f\u00bb\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Laura a re\u00e7u une bourse Baudin (programme coordonn\u00e9 par l\u2019ambassade de France \u00e0 Canberra) pour ce stage. Avant son d\u00e9part, elle avait \u00e9tudi\u00e9 le fran\u00e7ais pendant 6 semestres \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Flinders dans le cadre du Bachelor of Letters (French) maintenant appel\u00e9 \u00ab\u202fDiploma in Language\u202f\u00bb. Elle travaille d\u00e9sormais pour une entreprise d\u2019Immigration qui aide ceux qui souhaitent immigrer en Australie.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
