The creative arts sector has never been more diverse than it is today – and never more central to Australia’s economic and social vitality. Julian Meyrick, Professor of Creative Arts at Flinders University, discusses how, in an age obsessed with numbers and league tables, we can honestly and fairly define and assess creative activity. How can Universities play a part ensuring that talk about culture, particularly government talk about culture, is critically well-informed and aesthetically discriminating? How can we put the art back into culture?
